Alveston Girls Football

During November the Alveston Girls Football team who GPB sponsor, enjoyed more success.

Alveston 0 v 3 Penn Colts
Alveston 8 v 0 Solihull Borough
Alveston 4 v 4 Starlands St Annes

The match against Solihull saw the girls record their biggest win of the season so far. Both Penn and Starlands are above in the league, however the team are doing really well. There are some leading goal scorers in the team and there are 8 girls who have a 100% record of playing in every match so far and this needs to continue.

During November, the girls went to Wolves v Blackpool and were the half time entertainment against Stratford Town girls. This was a treat from Alveston Girls Football team for Sophie Reid who now plays for Stratford Town. Sophie used to play in the Alveston Girl's team where her Father helped trained the team. Sadly Ian Reid lost his life in the Atherton on Stour fire last year. The girls had a fantastic day and there was a great reception from the 22,500 fans inside the stadium. The Alveston Girls Football team were wearing their shirts showing the GPB logo.

The team have two further matches to play in December with plenty more football in 2009.

Alveston Girls Football Club

The Alveston Girls Under 14's football team proudly wear their kit sponsored by GPB. The team have made an excellent start to the football season by winning 5 of their first 7 matches, losing only to the two top teams in the division. The girls finished last season in a credible 7th position and currently sit in 4th place and are very close in points to the three teams above them. Title favourites Aston Villa won narrowly against the girls who have shown great team spirit so far.

The team have scored a superb 32 goals in just 7 matches and have a goal difference of +18. The goals have been scored by 8 different players. Their wins include victory over local rivals Stratford Town as well as two away wins against some strong Birmingham sides who provided some stern tough opposition.

This month the team face a tough test in the 1st round cup competition as well as league matches against two of the top teams, so they will be playing at their very best to gain further success.

Off the pitch the girls have some exciting news. As a treat for Sophie Reid, there will be a game played between Alveston Girls and Stratford Town on Saturday November 22nd in front of 23,000 fans at half time in the championship match between Wolverhampton and Blackpool. Sophie's Father, Ian Reid was one of the four Fire fighters who sadly lost their lives a year ago in the Atherstone Fire. Ian helped to coach the girls in season one when Sophie played for Alveston Girls, however Sophie has since moved to play for Stratford Town. This will be a fantastic experience and hopefully will be a real day to remember for all the girls involved.

GPB sponsor Alveston Girls Football Team

GPB is Alveston Girls Football Team

“Alveston Football Club has a mens team, 11 junior boys teams and only 1 junior girls team that we proudly sponsor. The girls aged between 12 and 13 and wear shirts bearing our name with pride and have done so for the last 2 seasons.

The team are part of the highly competitive Central Warwickshire Girls League which is the biggest league in the country. It attracts big names such as Aston Villa, Coventry and West Bromwich. In their last season the girls came seventh out of a league of fifteen and gained no yellow cards in all thirty games.

The team was initially formed out of a group of friends and grew rapidly thereafter. Their Coach, Martin is dedicated to their success and is an inspiration as he gladly volunteers his time to train the team and attend coaching courses.

“ I just want them to enjoy themselves and success will follow.”

Last season the most improved player was Laura Stallard the daughter of one of the members of staff. The team hope to take on two more talented girls and hope to do even better in their third season which starts in September.

in touch with the future as football is the fastest growing female sport in the UK” Coach Martin.
